DISTRIBUTED COMPUTING IN THE WORKGROUP

SyncDeK Presentation and Webcast, February 17th, 2004 at DIG-FM - Presented by Jason Erickson, CEO, and Jay Gonzales, Sales Director, of WorldSync, Inc.

DIGFM, Database Interest Group for FileMaker is an independent, non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers dedicated to the education and representation of the users of FileMaker database and tools software. Information about DIG-FM meetings, membership, and webcasts can be found at the DIG-FM Web Site.

Presentation Overview:

In most companies, IT resources and budgets are generally focused on the enterprise core, and the "edge" departments and groups often find themselves in the IT backwaters competing for IT's attention. Most small businesses face the challenge of tight IT budgets as well. And both groups also often have a need for dynamic data due to many factors: mobile users, multiple satellite sites, telecommuting, faster application development cycles, outside contractors, offsite developers, and so on.

Using distributed database technologies like data replication and synchronization, FileMaker developers now have the tools to produce ''nimble'' applications. These nimble applications can help workgroups function more effectively while still co-existing with enterprise systems, and they can help small businesses meet the challenge of efficiently managing their data to stay competitive.

Jason Erickson and Jay Gonzales from WorldSync Inc. will demonstrate SyncDeK 5.0, which won ''Best of Show'' at the recent Macworld Expo in San Francisco. SyncDeK is WorldSync's bi-directional asynchronous data replication technology, which supports synchronization between distributed FileMaker databases. Here is your opportunity to learn the basics of enabling distributed databases with FileMaker Pro, including solutions for:

- Mobile and Remote Users
- Multiple Sites / Multiple Servers
- Distributed Workgroup Collaboration
- Offline Development & Version Management

Jason and Jay will also discuss using distributed database technology as both an alternative and a complement to Client-Server/Web and Terminal Services options with FileMaker Pro.
